Jonny Bairstow played an exceptional inning because he scored 112 in 126 deliveries. It was his tenth One-Day International hundred. England started poorly as they lost two wickets without scoring any runs. Starc dismissed Jason Roy and Joe Root. However, the responsible inning from Bairstow takes the team to 302 for 7. Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa picked three wickets each. Pat Cummins took one wicket as well. It seems to be a good total for a deciding game.
Jonny and Morgan put up a 67 run stand in 10 overs. But in the next over, Zampa was introduced and he dismissed Morgan on 23. In 18.1 overs, the score stands at 96 for 4. They were in big trouble. However, Sam Billings and Chris Woakes supported Jonny Bairstow by scoring fifties. Chris Woakes was unbeaten on 53 in just 39 balls. Sam Billings played a run a ball 57.
Chris Woakes and Tom Curran put up a 46 run stand for the seventh wicket which is a commendable job. That partnership seriously troubled Aussies.
Australia started poorly. At one stage, there were in serious trouble as their score was 73 for 5. They were chasing the target of 303. However, the miraculous partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey changed the course of the match. Both of them scored centuries and guides the team towards a victory. Maxwell played an aggressive knock by scoring 90-ball 108. Alex Carey scored a brilliant 106 in 114 deliveries. However, both of them were dismissed until 49th over.
England still had a chance to defend 10 runs in the final over. Adil Rashid was going to bowl the final over. But, Mitchell Starc finished the game with a six and four.
Australia won the match by three wickets and won the series 2-1. Chris Woakes and Joe Root picked a couple of wickets each. Glenn Maxwell receives the Player of the Match as well Player of the series.
Maxwell said we have nothing to lose when I came in to bat. So, I kept on playing my shots and tried to put pressure on them and it worked. But, the partnership with Alex was very crucial. It was our fresh start after the lockdown. I am really happy to be on the winning side.
