Bangladesh’s experienced player Mushfiqur Rahim is included in the squad for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. He had opted out of the Pakistan tour due to security reasons. He is a part of the 16-man squad announced by the BCB on Sunday (February 16).
There were question marks over Rahim’s place in the side as the chief selector Minhajul Abedin had expressed that Bangladesh will hold a similar squad they reported for the first Test against Pakistan for both the Zimbabwe Test and the second Test against Pakistan. Head coach Russell Domingo likewise had accentuated the requirement for coherence regarding selection although he conceded that Rahim must be considered as he was Bangladesh’s best player in India.
Mahmudullah was informed to focus on only limited-overs cricket and was excluded from the squad for the Tests. Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman also included who played their last test in 2017. The selectors have also handed maiden call-ups to middle-order batsman Yasir Ali and medium pacer Hasan Mahmud as they have the potential and talent and will be very useful for us in the future.
Al-Amin is left out due to niggle and it would be difficult for him to bowl in the longer version so we have given him a break so that he can be fully fit for the limited-overs matches where his presence is most required. Soumya Sarkar had requested a break and that is the reason he was not been considered.
Their tour was started with a two-day warm-up game against BCB XI, Zimbabwe will play the only Test from February 22. Both the teams will then play three ODIs and two T20Is from March 1.
