England Win The Toss
India vs England 4th Test Day 1 took place at the newly-built Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad. The English won the toss and opted for batting first. Their performance wasn’t that great as they made just 205 runs before the team got all out.
India vs England 4th Test Day 1 Match Summary
Ben Stokes Hits A Half Century
Ben Stokes smashed a half-century by making 55 runs and was the highest-scoring English batsman. Though his inning was somewhat slow (strike rate: 45.45), he made sure that he held his end.
Had it not been for him and Dan Lawrence (46 runs), the English might have gotten into deep trouble. In total, the English batsmen faced over 76 overs.
Axar Patel’s 4 Wicket Haul
Axar Patel’s miraculous performance from the last test continued as he sent 4 batsmen back to the dressing room. His most valuable wicket was that of Dan Lawrence who had settled himself and was becoming a threat to the Indian aim of limiting England to a low score.
Ravichandran Ashwin too assisted him again like the last test and took 3 wickets while youngster Washington Sundar took a wicket to his name as well. Sundar was also the most economical bowler.
India’s First Innings Starts
India made quite a slow start as they currently stand at the score of 24 runs while they have lost the wicket of opener Shubman Gill who got dismissed without scoring a run by veteran English pacer James Anderson. Currently, Rohit Sharma (8 runs) and Cheteshwar Pujara (15 runs) are on the crease.
James Anderson Didn’t Give A Single Run!
He bowled 5 overs but still hasn’t given away even a single run and he was also taken a wicket. It would be interesting to see how he performs tomorrow. The Indian fans too have high expectations and especially from Rohit Sharma.
