Cricket in Ireland also suffered a significant setback when the Gaelic Athletic Association banned it as a part of their drive against all kinds of foreign games.
They had been an associate member of the ICC from 1993 to 2017 when they were granted the test status. The Irish managed to win their first-ever ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2005. They won this cup again in the 2006-07 season. Their third title came in November 2008.

Their performance in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup surprised a lot of cricket fans. In their first matchup against Zimbabwe, they managed to tie the match. While in their second match, they managed to defeat Pakistan, which was ranked at number 4 on the ICC rankings.

They also managed to qualify for the 2009 ICC T20I World Cup. In their first match in this tournament, they defeated the Bangladesh Cricket Team by four wickets and successfully knocked them out of the tournament.

In the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, the Irish cricket team again surprised us by defeating England’s rival. They also managed to defeat West Indies by four wickets in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.
