Islamabad United won a thriller

Mohammad Hafeez played an exceptional inning as he scored an unbeaten 98 and Shaheen Afridi picked up four-wickets but both went in vain as Islamabad United enlisted a one-wicket triumph with a ball to save against Lahore Qalandars.

The Qalandars rode on Hafeez’s fine show with the bat to post an aggregate of 182 for 6. Joined lost their way in the pursuit following 50 from Shadab Khan yet Muhammad Musa’s unbeaten 11-ball 17 helped them over the line in an exciting completion that took them to the highest position of the points table.

With Luke Ronchi and Colin Munro were dismissed in the initial part of the innings, it wasn’t the perfect start for the United. But, they recoup as they formed a 57-run partnership between Shadab Khan and Dawid Malan.

 Wiese dismissed Malan and Shadab proceeded to enlist a 28-ball 50 and alongside Colin, Ingram played a quick 30 off 14 balls, kept them in the chase. But the Qalandars come back really well and took quick wickets and Afridi doing the bulk of the damage.

But Muhammad Musa led a superb comeback by smashing two boundaries in the 18th over which followed by a six off Usman Shinwari on the first ball of the twentieth over but still nine runs were required in five deliveries. He was there till the end, hitting the winning single off the penultimate delivery as United pulled off an awesome triumph.

Requested to bat, the Qalandars lost Chris Lynn quite early, however, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez, through their 67-run stand that came in under eight overs, put their side in a strong position. The Qalandars lost their direction a piece in the middle overs when they lost few wickets.

Hafeez took the responsibility and played till the end. He got good support from David Wiese due to which they scored 60 runs off the last five overs but it was not enough, in the end, thanks to Musa’s heroics.
