Introduction

The capital of Sindh province, Karachi is the financial capital of Pakistan. The team is currently lead by Imad Wasim and is coached by notable South African of his times, Herschelle Gibbs. It was the most expensive PSL franchise in terms of the cost before the advent of Multan Sultans. It has had seven captains to date out of which four were Pakistani, two were English one was a Sri Lankan.

Karachi Kings team has always managed to make it to the playoffs and it even won its first-ever PSL title in 2020. They share a deep rivalry with the Lahare Qalandars. Their previous coach Dean Jones died last year sadly.

Owners of Karachi Kings Team

The owners of this team are the ARY Media Group. The ARY Group runs TV channels and magazines targeting Pakistanis. It was founded in 2000 and has its worldwide headquarters in London, UK. They also have a head-office in Karachi and maybe that is the reason why they decided to buy the franchise named after the city.

Home Ground

KK’s home ground is the National Stadium in Karachi. It is perhaps one of the oldest stadiums in Pakistan as it is operational since the 1950s.

The cricket team of Sindh also have it as their home ground. The stadium has hosted World Cup matches in the 1987 and 1996 World Cups. The stadium is owned by PCB but is considered as the home ground of many teams which represent Karachi is various leagues in Pakistan/

  • Shahid Afridi played for Karachi Kings in the 2018 season.
  • They have been most successful against Multan Sultans.
  • Their worst record has been against the Quetta Gladiators.
  • Babar Azam is the highest run-scorer with 1250+ runs to his credit.
  • Mohammed Amir is the most successful bowler with 49 wickets to his name.

Performance of Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League

  • PSL 2020

They finished second on the points table in the league stage. While one of their matches did get cancelled, they managed to win five and lost four out of the total ten. Their net run rate stood at -0.190. Overall, the performance was quite decent.

  • PSL 2019

They finished at the fourth position in this season in the league table. They won and lost an equal number of matches out of the ten that they played. Securing ten points, their net run rate stood at -0.673. They won three out of the five last matches.

  • PSL 2018

They came second out of the six teams which participated in the league stage. The total number of points stood at eleven and they narrowly defeated Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators as they had a point less than the Karachi Kings in the league stage points table.

  • PSL 2017

Their performance exactly wasn’t that great as they came third out of the five teams in this edition of the PSL. They could have been fourth had the Islamabad United had a better net run rate. They managed to win the four out of the last five matches against others.

  • PSL 2016

In the first season of the PSL, they finished second last out of the five teams in the league stage. They avoided finishing last as they had somewhat better run rate than Lahore Qalandars. This was the case because they lost four out of their five last matches.
