Kings XI Punjab is on a roll as they have defeated the top three teams that are on the points table i.e Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians. But, Chris Gayle seems to be their lucky charm. Because they were on the bottom position in the points table and they won only 1 match out of 7. But, when they included Chris Gayle in the side. They have won 3 out of 3 matches. After three back to back wins, they moved to the fifth position of the table.
Delhi Capitals scored 164 for 5. At one position it looked like they will score 200. But Kings Xi Punjab fights back in the last 5 overs and they did not allow them to score runs. However, Dhawan was the only batsman who was playing freely and scoring runs. But, the other batsmen were struggling to score runs. Mohammed Shami shines in the death overs by bowling yorkers and he picked a couple of wickets. Glenn Maxwell, Jimmy Neesham, and Murugan Ashwin took a wicket each.
Kings XI Punjab scored 57 for 3 in the powerplay. Chris Gayle scored 26 runs in one over against Tushar Deshpande. But, he got out in the next over to Ravi Chandran Ashwin. He scored 29 in just 13 balls. Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell put a 69 run stand. That was much needed for them and it gives security that they are on the winning side. Glenn Maxwell was struggling to score initially but this time he didn’t throw his wicket away. He kept on rotating the strike and scored 24 balls 32. Nicholas Pooran did the damage as he scored 53 in 28 deliveries.
Rabada dismissed Pooran in the 13th over and Maxwell in the 16th over. But, they already did the damage. Deepak Hooda and Jimmy Neesham finish the game in the 19th over. Kings XI Punjab won by 5 wickets against Delhi Capitals with one over to spare. Shikhar Dhawan scored a century but it went in vain as they lost the game. Kagiso Rabada picked a couple of wickets. Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin took a wicket each. Shikhar Dhawan receives the Player of the Match award. He becomes the first person to score consecutive centuries in IPL.
