Pakistan started well as Shaheen Afridi bowled a brilliant spell. Because he dismisses both the New Zealand openers early. At one stage, they were 13/2. However, kiwis managed to make a great comeback.
The partnership for the third wicket between Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor was 120 runs and it was very crucial for them. Ross Taylor scored 70 runs in 151 balls. It was his 34th Test fifty. Pakistan failed to pick up a wicket in the second session. But, Shaheen Afridi dismissed him with his disciplined bowling and he broke the partnership in the third session.
Henry Nicholls and Williamson put up an unbeaten 89 run stand for the fourth wicket. That gives the kiwis a chance to put up a strong total on the board. However, on the other hand, Pakistan will look to pick a couple of wickets early so that they can make a comeback.
They were 222/3 in 87 overs at the end of Day 1. However, Shahid Afridi was the only bowler who picked wickets. Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls were unbeaten on 94 and 42. Williamson will look to score his 23rd Test hundred on Day 2.
