Sachin Tendulkar: God of Cricket I Master Blaster I

About Sachin Tendulkar

There would rarely be a cricket fan who has not heard the name, Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the whole game. He has a number of world records to his name. Some of them include being the only cricketer to have completed more than thirty thousand runs in all the formats of international cricket, another record for being the holder of most runs in the two main formats of the game, ODI and Test cricket, also he was the first player to have scored more than 200 runs in One Day International cricket.

His nicknames include him being referred to as “Master Blaster” or “Little Blaster” or God of Cricket. An amazing fact about him is that he debuted in the test cricket format at the age of just sixteen against Pakistan at the Karachi test. His cricketing career then went on to last a whopping 24 years. He has managed to represent the Indian cricket team in a record 6 ODI world cup.

Some of the other accolades which he has managed to land include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shri, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, and the prestigious Arjuna Award. He was also awarded “Bharat Ratna”, India’s highest civilian honor in the year 2013.

Besides cricket, he has also made his mark in other fields. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2012. He was also given the honorary rank of a group captain by the IAF (Indian Air Force). If we talk about his retirement in the various formats of cricket then he took retirement from the ODI cricket in 2012, from T20 cricket in the year 2013, and finally announced his overall retirement from all the formats of cricket in Nov. 2013.

He has had a legendary career and is renowned in the whole world for his contributions to the sport.

Sachin Centuries While Chasing

Without a doubt making tonnes while chasing a score is difficult, which is we should talk about the 100s made by Sachin while doing so. When it comes to ODI format, he made 14 centuries out of 49 in this way.

When compared to Virat Kohli, Sachin does lag behind in terms of average when a target has been set but it is also worthwhile to note that the percentage of matches won by India when he hit a century are more than 65%.

This difference in averages widens further if one talks about the matches that India ended up winning. But surprisingly, Sachin has scored more number of hundreds (14) when Indian batting line up went on the ground 2nd.

If we compare these stats with the big names of batting like Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara, Tendulkar comes up miles ahead of them. In fact, he scored almost double those that of Ponting who comes a distant second.

Statistical analysis has its own place, but it is indeed great to see that Kohli seems to have a nearly equal batting potential as Sachin. This is what the God of Cricket would have wanted as well. The future of Indian cricket being brighter than what it has been.
