South Africa vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Day 1 Match Report: Sri Lanka was 54/3 at one stage and they were looking for some partnership. Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva build the inning and guided Lankans to a strong total of 340 for 6 on the first day.
131 run stand between Chandimal and Silva was very crucial. But, Dhananjaya de Silva got retired hurt in 79 due to a hip injury. He was seen in discomfort and he left the field. He has to undergo scans. Dinesh Chandimal played a good knock of 85 runs. But, he got out by Wiaan Mulder. Niroshan Dickwella also played a handy inning of 49 runs.
Wiaan Mulder bowled well as he picked three wickets and he gave 68 runs. It was his second test match. But, the gap between his first and the second test is of 18 months. During the press conference, he says that we should have bowled to the fourth-stump line. That seems to be an ideal line to bowl on this pitch. So, that we could have picked more wickets and restricted them to a lower score.
While, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Simpala, and Anrich Nortje picked a wicket each. Lankans exposed the inexperience of South African bowlers. Because they gave too many runs on the first day. They need to learn from their mistakes and get back much stronger on the second day. Because they need to pick early wickets. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will look to post a big total on the board in order to get an edge over RSA.
The injury to Dhananjaya de Silva gave an opportunity to South Africa to make a comeback in the match. RSA did pick a few wickets. But, still, Lankans manage to post a big score of 340 for 6 on the first day.
