Jonny Bairstow was a footballer

Yes, you read it right. He played for the Leeds United way back. Also, he was a Rugby player too. There are very few cases in which a well-known cricketer played a different sport too at some point in time. Some of them are ABD, Suzie Bates, Jonty Rhodes, Ellyse Perry and Brendon McCullum. He once got injured while playing football for some years as a cricketer.

His father was a cricketer too

David Bairstow too was a cricketer for the England cricket team. Interestingly, he too like Jonny was a wicketkeeper-batsman. While his first-class and List-A career was prolific and he played 400 plus matches in both of these formats, his international cricket career was short-lived as he played just 4 tests and 21 ODIs.

Jonny Bairstow Career

He has been playing for the England cricket team since 2011. He has also played in the PSL (Pakistan Super League) from 2016-2018. Till now, he has played 83 ODIs and 72 tests. His average in ODI stands at 47.16 which is quite impressive. He made his international debut on 16th September 2011 against the Indian cricket team.

He has also played in the T10 league too for the Kerala Kings in 2018. Bairstow was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2019 auctions.
