The Zimbabwe Cricket Team is currently managed by Zimbabwe Cricket which was known as ZCU or Zimbabwe Cricket Union.

Zimbabwe Cricket Team acquired its test status in the year 1992. In October 1992, they played their first test match against India in the city of Harare. As for their first ODI match, they played it up against Australia on June 9th, 1983. Before 1980, Zimbabwe was known as Rhodesia. Zimbabwe surprised cricket fans in the 1983 cricket World Cup when they managed to beat a much stronger Australian cricket team.

Another surprising win which they achieved was up against the English in the 1992 ICC World Cup. They defended a below part total of 134 runs. While most people thought that England would easily chase this target, bowlers like Eddo Brandes took 4 wickets and squashed England’s hope for a win.

After they were granted the test status, they managed to win just 1 game out the 30 that they played. While they struggled playing test cricket, their team was quite competitive in the ODI spectrum of the game.

While most people consider that Zimbabwe has always been a weak team, this is not the case. They have had players like Andy Flower who was considered to be amongst the best batsmen globally. The team witnessed its golden era in the 90s and early 2000s. Zimbabwe’s best cricketers were Grant Flower, Andy Blignaut, Heath Streak, Murray Goodwin, David Houghton, Alistair Campbell, Paul Strang, Eddo Brandes and Neil Johnson.

They also performed exceedingly well at the 1999 World Cup and managed to finish on the 5th place. They missed playing the semi-final because they had a lesser run rate than New Zealand. Since then, the team has only seen decline and finally it failed to even qualify for the 2019 ICC World Cup.
